In the remote areas of Hoa Binh province, Vietnam, many women still lack awareness about gynecological checkups and cancer screening. According to a survey conducted as part of a healthcare service project, most of the women who participated in the screening reported that they had never undergone any related examinations. They often relied on purchasing over-the-counter medication or using traditional herbal remedies to manage their health issues.
One woman shared, "When we feel unwell, we usually go to the village pharmacy to buy medicine, or we look for herbal treatments ourselves. If it works, we keep using it; if not, we just endure it."
In response to these challenges, TFCF Vietnam has partnered with the Department of Health in Hoa Binh province to launch a five-year healthcare project. The initiative focuses on 31 of the province's most impoverished and remote communes, aiming to provide free breast and cervical cancer screenings for 2,500 women between the ages of 16 and 65.
In addition to screening services, the project seeks to strengthen the professional capacity of local healthcare personnel and improve the quality of medical equipment, with the ultimate goal of comprehensively enhancing the overall health and wellbeing of the local population.
