In a little town in northern China in 1937, a foreign priest was deeply moved by the devastation caused by war. Among the rubble, he discovered a baby crying near the lifeless body of his mother. Without hesitation, he rushed the injured baby to the hospital and brought him home for care. This act of compassion sparked a mission to save patients and provide a home for orphans. Thus, the Christian Children Fund (CCF) was born.
Inspired by the priest's dedication, American Christians established China's Children Fund (CCF) in 1938, intending to support thousands of homeless Chinese orphans during the Sino-Japanese War. Orphanages were set up across China, offering shelter, care, and education to those in need.
In August 1950, CCF opened its first family-style orphanage, Kwang-Yin Orphanage, in Taiwan to support children whose families had been affected by accidents. This marked the beginning of CCF's history in Taiwan. Over the years, our organization evolved and became the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families (TFCF).
About Taiwan Fund for Children and Families
TFCF is an international non-governmental organization headquartered in Taichung, Taiwan. Our mission is to support vulnerable children and their families, both in Taiwan and worldwide. We started with financial support from foreign donors but have since become a self-independent organization driven by our commitment to the well-being of children in need. Through generous contributions and donations from the public, we can make a meaningful impact on the lives of countless children and families.
Since 1964, TFCF has established national branches in counties and cities throughout Taiwan to expand our services and reach more children and families. We have also introduced Family Helper Projects and launched a children's sponsorship program to provide direct support to families in need. Our goal is to keep families together and ensure that vulnerable children grow up in their original families.
TFCF collaborates with the government and advocates for various welfare services and collaborative programs. Through our professional social work experience, we aim to prevent child abuse and provide financial assistance to children and families in need. Our ultimate vision is for every child to receive proper care, be protected from harm, grow up in a healthy environment, and have access to quality education, enabling them to lead happy and fulfilling lives.
