Taiwan Fund for Children and Families. (TFCF)

In early-August, the opening ceremony of Taiwan Fund for Children and Families (TFCF) Overseas Branch Office was held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The delegation included Mr. Li-Min Chao, TFCF Chairman, Mr. Hsin-Tzu Chang, Standing Board Member, Dr. Li-Chen Cheng, Board member, and Betty Ho, CEO who arrived Phnom Penh and attended the opening ceremony of TFCF the 5^th Overseas Branch Office in Cambodia. Many honored guests were invited and presented at the opening ceremony. TFCF is going to provide urgent emergency assistance for vulnerable children in Cambodia where is one of the poorest countries in Southeast Asia and 20% of Cambodia population falls below international poverty line.

  
   Inadequate housing condition in one of slum dwellings

Since 2015, TFCF social workers has finished the field research and site investigation which help understand the poverty situation. Through the assistances from several parties including Mr. Lin Hsien Chih, the general manager of Taiwanese enterprise in Cambodia, Ms. Srey Sochenda, the program manager of Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) Social Work Department, Mr. Chhoun Mengsry, Director of Stellar Child Care Organization, Sally Yu, CEO of Formosa Budding Hope Association, and Mr. Chea Naren, Accountant of the accounting firm in Cambodia, TFCF has obtained the certificate of registration in Cambodia successfully which was issued by the Ministry of Interior, Cambodia in September 2015. TFCF has started the children sponsorship services through Advanced Centre for Empowerment (ACE) since 2015 December and there are more than 700 children sponsored in needy communities and schools, including financial assistances, nutrition improvements, education subsidies, and community environment improvement.

TFCF Chairman, Mr. Chao, was heart wrenching while visiting one of the slums in Phnom Penh and seeing inadequate housing conditions and living environment. There is no doubt that the unhealthy social and environmental conditions will impact on children’s educational resources and medical caring. There are a total of 511 recognized slum areas in Phnom Penh and over 25,100 families reside in slum dwellings.
